Wolfgang Meyer has announced the release of eXist 0.8. eXist is an LGPL native XML database written in Java. Here's what he had to say.
I just released eXist-0.8 final on sourceforge. I thought it would be wise to make a (nearly) stable release before getting stuck in new developments. Changes compared to the 0.8 beta release include:

* Added SOAP methods to store and remove documents / collections.

* Fixed namespace handling: required namespace declarations are stored for each single element, not for the document as a whole.

* Cocoon updated to 2.0.3

* Fixed bugs leading to uncontrolled memory consumption.

* Several XML-RPC related changes.

* Documentation updates (developer's guide).

Xindice.Net 0.1 Released

Ken Egervari pointed out the release of Xindice.Net 0.1. This is a set of tools for working with Xindice from within Microsoft's .Net environment. Looks like it's written in C# and talks to Xindice via XML-RPC. You can get it from the project's Sourceforge page, Xindice.Net.

Sleepycat DbXml Updated to Version 0.4

John Merrels of Sleepycat has announced a new alpha release of Sleepycat DbXml. It's still limited distribution so contacting John is the way to get your hands on it.

Here's John's announcement.

We're pleased to announce the fourth alpha release of Berkeley DB XML. The key addition to this release is the Java API, which is implemented as a JNI layer on top our C++ API. Michael cunningly used Swig to automate this, and we've included the Swig files so that you can learn how he did it. An important note is that this release only compiles/links with Berkeley DB version 4.1.x. This db release is not generally available yet, but it available with this release of dbxml.

If you'd like access to this release (dbxml-0.4.0 and db-4.1.16) then email me a request for the URLs. If you've not requested a previous release then include information about the operating system platform(s) and language(s) you are working with, and a little about your project would be interesting for us too. Finally, note that this is an alpha release, which means we haven't really started testing yet...
