Worse

I am in some minor discomfort. This person however, has it way, way worse. [via pixelsurgeon]

Way, way worse.

Way.

Is it safe?

Those of you who have read my New Adventures in Dentistry piece will understand that I am none too keen on fillings, having had several without any form of anaesthetic in my childhood.

This afternoon I had the pleasure of having one of my white fillings replaced (with another white one), as the bond had failed and the filling was loose. I'm hoping that this time it will stay put for a while longer.

The anaesthetic is now beginning to wear off. I feel like I have a beached elephant seal in my mouth instead of a tongue. Blech.

Women can ovulate more than once a month [New Scientist]

"It's been assumed until now that women have just one wave per monthly cycle, leading to one ovulation, but nobody has actually carried out detailed analysis before," said Roger Pierson, who led the study. "In fact, all the women in our study had at least two waves and 30 per cent of them had three."

I just came across but she's a girl (Femina geekoides), the blog of an Apple/Unix geek, an audiophile, an avid reader and film buff, and an amateur (in both the inept and unpaid senses) photographer.

She's UK based, and knows how to write specific names. I think I'm in unrequited love.

Still Life, Big Numbers. Today I was reading the wonderful Conversation Between Dave Patterson and Jim Gray over at the ACM site. Patterson and Gray are both pretty famous in our profession, but neither is as famous as he deserves to be. Instructions: If you care at all about anything to do with data and where it lives, skip over and read Patterson and Gray.... [ongoing]

Tim's post contains a 4+MB Quicktime movie, and some interesting additional points.
