...useless miscellany

Bizzy bizzy week

Last week was a very hectic week, hence the lack of contious postings.  This week may prove to hold the same.

Mon - Direcway Satellite System to be installed in the AM

Thur & Fri - Staying in Columbus for a library technology conference.

With a little luck, the Satellite install will go smooth and I'll be able to figure out how to get my copy of Radio online 24/7 using DDNS, assuming I can get around whatever they're using to manage client IPs with.  DHCP's not a problem, but NAT might be fun.

If I can get Radio live, I'll be able to keep up with the blog no matter where I am.

A little self indulgence...

First off, useless miscellany has now been added to the 1000s of other listings available for consumption at News Is Free.  Thanks to who ever made the suggestion.

Secondly, after reading a posting by Jenny @ The Shifted Librarian on keeping link lists in Radio, I felt it worth noting that I have been using this exact method to keep track of various 'interest' lists on this site. See the output on the side bar tracking reading lists, an automated output file from WinAmp of music I'm listening to, and even a blog roll.  See my gems folder for a peek at the raw OPML files doing the work behind the scenes.

The Case for the Empire

"In all of the time we spend observing the Rebel Alliance, we never hear of their governing strategy or their plans for a post-Imperial universe. All we see are plots and fighting. Their victory over the Empire doesn't liberate the galaxy--it turns the galaxy into Somalia writ large: dominated by local warlords who are answerable to no one. "

An alternative look at the Star Wars epic.

Reflections on Stephen Wolfram's A New Kind of Science

Kurzweil coments on this interesting sounding book.  Adding it to my To Read list, but at 1100+ pages and with summer coming, reading may be come someting more of a luxury.
