All-in-one Media PC.
Sleek Media Center. Gateway will be the first company to introduce an all-in-one PC based on the Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition OS. [eWEEK Technology News]
This baby speaks for itself.
I gotta say this is a great time to be in the business we're in. When I look at this machine, I forget about Microsoft's poll tax, their domination of the PC market and look at it optimistically "there will be millions of these machines running Longhorn - what can you do with that?"
As long as we're working with open standards - for both APIs and data structures - we're golden. A machine like this - running Indigo will be a connectivty engine, capable of tying into any kind of protocol, API layer or industry standard.
Service Oreinted applications for 'humans' - is where's it at!

It won't be long before we can hang one of these anywhere without wires (maybe we'll still need to wire up the power, but that's easy). It seems the whole home entertainment market that IMHO has been flat and boring for so long is changing overnight. Plasma screens, LCDs, surround sound, HDTV, wireless DVD, XP Media Center, computer monitors with TV tuners, WIFI, and the list goes on. Announced on the Internet today, in the store tomorrow. Wow how things have changed!! Just take a ride to Best Buy or Circuit City and you would think your at an Electronic Consumer Conference. The most disruptive room design change in the home is going to be the family room. For years remodeling the family room only meant tearing up the rugs, throwing out the worn out couch and painting the walls. Remodeling the family room will never be the same soon with these kind of offerings. We will probably even have to change the family room's name to something more trendy to refect the new era we are entering. Man I never thought I ever say this but I think I'll stop by a Gateway store on the way home from work to check out their home entertainment stuff for the holidays.
