Last night I spent some time "pruning" my weblog posts, going back over the past few months and deleting posts that I had no idea why I posted them in the first place. I've decided that I've got to "personalize" this weblog, make it my own. Couple of ideas:

  1. Too many categories
  2. Too many "link" posts, no commentary, no personality
  3. There has to be a better way to track things I'm interested in (a) keeping an eye on but (b)  have no interest (at this time) in posting about. How can I do this within the RU8 framework? Can I do this within the RU8 framework?
  4. Where do I find the time to fix 1 thru 3?

Decided to reduce my categories from 25 to 7

New Category - Old Categories
Real life - Other, Science, History, People
Computer programming - Programming, Development, Design
Media & Play - Media, Books, Games
Computers - Computers, Desktop, Hardware, Software, Handheld, Palm, Pocket PC
The "Biz" of Business - Industry, Microsoft, Apple
Internet - Internet, Peer-2-Peer, Web Services, Weblogs
Radio Userland - Radio Userland

I've decided to add one new category for things I want to keep an eye on. No, I've decided to just stick with the categories I have. (Conflicted, aren't I) If I want to keep an eye on something, I'll post it along with a reason why I think it might be of future interest.

I'm going to continue pruning posts, deleting ones that I have no idea why I posted and recategorizing the ones I keep.

I've also decided to post things to multiple categories if it's warrented. For example, a interview post about Larry Wall, creater of Perl, would go into the "Real Life" and "Computer Programming" categories. This way, I've got virtual categories beyond the hardcoded 7.
