I called work this afternoon, to let them know that my brother Alan died. I first talked with Ema, our school clerk, who let me know that our principal got the news through an email I sent this morning and had the clerks calling my collegues. After a few minutes catching up on gossip, Ema asked me if I wanted to speak to the principal. I responded in the affirmative. Mary answered the phone and asked me how I was doing. I could only say we as a family were fine and that my brother was at peace. He was tired of battling MS and the last pulminary infection moved quickly to end his life. Enough was enough for him. Mary understood, since just a couple months back her youngest son lost his battle to hepatitis C. Mary told me that she had her staff making calls to those staff members who were still in town. She mentioned that some collegues called former collegues with whom I worked with in past years. I thought to myself, "Wow!" Mary asked if I there was anything more I needed. " I just would like to see you at the awake on Friday", not knowing what to say. "Of course, I will be at the awake and the Saturday funeral mass", she quickly responded. "Do you need a ride home from the airport?", she asked since she knows I do not drive. "Thanks, but my brother or sister will pick me up". She closed with, "if there is anything you need, do not hesitate to call." I was left kind of speechless.

Forgive the grammar since the grammarian is not in ...
