EFF Unintended Consequences: Four Years under the DMCA Since they were enacted in 1998, the "anti-circumvention" provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA"), codified in section 1201 of the Copyright Act, have not been used as Congress envisioned. In practice the anti-circumvention provisions have been used to stifle a wide array of legitimate activities, rather than to stop copyright piracy. US the World's Most Dangerous Nation (Europe). Time, Europe has a poll up as to Who is the biggest threat to world peace: Iraq, N. Korea or the US?. I got an email saying that the US was running away with 51% of the vote. By the time I got the the site, they were pulling away from the pack at 62%. [kuro5hin.org]
This is hardly surprising, because it's true. We should get used to the rest of the world feeling this way. Eventually, we should be unsurprised that that opinion translates into painting a big target on our heads...
