The State of the Union: Frightened

President Bush did his best to scare the bejesus out of his audience Tuesday to make his case for war. And afterward, he was probably the only person to get a good night's sleep. [Salon]

WSIS delegates fail to agree on open-source 'support'; Draft was changed after objections by U.S. A three-day meeting that brought together Asian governments, organizations, companies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) ended Wednesday morning with the approval of a declaration that, among other things, calls for encouraging the development of open-source software. A draft of the declaration had called for open source to be "supported" but was changed after objections from the U.S. government delegation late Tuesday night. [Pigdog Journal]

I wonder how much cash moved from Microsoft's coffers to Dumbya's re-election campaign to get this gift. The "bright" side of this is it's just sticking our heads in the sand. China is going to embrace Open Source software in a huuuuuuge way, at it will become a tidal wave that will sweep Microsoft away. That'll be good for the American software industry...

New Bush Policy Allowing Construction Of Religious Buildings With Taxpayer Dollars A Federal policy change will allow religious groups to use taxpayer dollars to finance the construction and renovation of their houses of worship. The proposed policy shift was slipped under the radar as an obscure provision in the Federal Register last month. The rule change would turn on its head a long-standing prohibition against public funds being used to finance the construction or renovation of religious buildings. [ACLU]
