A United States Serviceman, Sgt Robert Ferriol, wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper that was critical of Bush's policy in the Iraq war. He was then criticized for his liberal views and charged with disloyalty. [Kuro5hin.org]
Quite a contrast to the astroturf campaign, where a form letter expressing positive sentiments about Bush was circulated to servicemen and servicewomen, and then sent to those folks' hometown newspapers. Afterwards, when the fake nature of the campaign was detected, a few of those whose letters were published said they never signed. Apparently a completely bogus campaign in favor of the president is OK, and genuine-but-critical is disloyal. Hmmm, that seems about right for our Republican-controlled government.
