The 'net is not destroying literacy or the English language.

Most of you in the weblog community know this already. But now you can cite a genuine academic authority to back you up when the skeptics come after you, howling about how bad spelling, bad grammar, and smiley faces are ruining our youth.

Dr. David Crystal's trenchant comment to the purists and rulemakers, who argue over things like whether it should be "email, e-mail, or E-mail":

If you worry about things like that, you're missing the point.
