Getting Old is Sort of Depressing, And That's a Good Thing...

...if you're a woman.

Those are the counterintuitive results of a Duke University study. It appears that mild depression has the effect of extending older women's lives. Women over 65 with mild depression were, on average, 60 percent less likely than other women to die during any three-year period. The results were adjusted to account for age, chronic illness, and other mortality factors. The same correlation did not appear for men.

So what, exactly, is it that I have to look forward to in my long, and slightly miserable life?
