To a cynic it might appear that the US attacks in Najaf are being used to provoke an attack within the US in time for the Republican Convention or the election. An attack would force the administration to suspend the elections and/or the constitution via the immediate passage of Patriots II or Patriots III. This is just to a cynic mind you.
