Today I have written up a proposal for the redesign of an online banking website.
Everytime I have to do something like this I run into the some problem. People always want me to come up with very detailed estimates of how much time it will take to cure the patient before I was ever allowed to come up with a diagnosis. This is driving me nuts! Why can't they pay me to evaluate their current site, take a look at the results, and then negotiate an appropriate project scope? I just don't get it...

When I reflect on issues of human learning I seem to drift back to two main concepts again and again. One is TIME the other one ATTENTION. Considering the abundance of material, learning opportunities, etc. that a lot of us face, one of the biggest challenges in our days is the art of attention management and time allocation. I remember reading an article of Seymour Papert in which he makes a similar point. At a first glance it seems almost silly to state the TIME would be a core factor for human learning processes. But if one takes a closer look at the allday life of a "digital worker" in the 21 century, it is hard to negelect that staying with a content domain long enough to reach a considerable level of mastery is not a trivial issue anymore.

I am still not happy with the Manila Bridge Tool. A while ago I followed some interesting posts at Oliver Wrede's log on the topic. Oliver is thinking along the same lines. If one really wants to use Radio as a publishing hub to various Manila sites it is absolutely necessary to integrate the Manila NewsItem format. I want to state a title and assign a department before I channel a particular post to the appropriate Manila Site.
