NoteTaker 2003 v1.1 does OPML! I'm not sure NoteTaker is a serious contendor in the weblog editing space, but it certainly looks pretty.

Long RSS itemsAre long RSS items rude? More and more people are reading inside of news readers and not bothering to go to the blogs themselves. (My logs show this.) Should we put full text of the blog entry in the RSS feed, even if it's long? It will surely slow your refresh rate. Has anyone written a style guide for RSS feeds? It's a moving target, but I would be interested to hear about how readers and writers are designing their RSS feeds. Obviously, the people who are reading this in their RSS readers are going to have to get up off their butts and click on my blog to comment... ;-) [Joi Ito's Web]YES! And I also want the ability to notify you when I post this item to my blog in response to your blog from within my desktop news aggregator of choice (NNW)! 3:50:25 PM ![]() |
Weblog Content Cycle As I've been sorting out the various business opportunities dealing with weblogs, I've come to the following general categorizations.
First, people consume weblogs, either by visiting web pages in a browser, or reading weblog entries in a news aggregator. Next, some people create new weblog content, either by commenting on other people's weblogs, or by writing new entries on their own weblog. Third, weblogs are distributed to other consumers thru a number of means, including the relatively new RSS syndication format. Within each category, there are key features and benefits that could be addressed by number of products.
I'll be talking more about this graphic as we move forward. 3:09:11 PM ![]() |
Bayesian filter tests? there might be a way to test the use of bayesian filters on weblogs. there's a product available on Mac OS called SpamSeive which interacts with various email clients to identify and process spam email. it does this integration via AppleEvents. I wonder if I can write an AppeScript that pulls all the items from NetNewsWire to populate the corpus in SpamSeive? Perhaps I'd first start by processing just the items in my weblog, to mark them as "good"... 11:58:18 AM ![]() |
Open Source Bayesian Filter Projects The concept of bayesian filters is really hot right now, as the latest tool to fight spam. There are several open source bayesian filter libraries becoming available:
There's also some interest in the more general uses of bayesian filters, such as in the Chandler project.
But, I have yet to find anyone talking about using Bayesian filters as a way to analyize weblogs and find related blog entries in other weblogs. How would this work? What would it look like? 11:35:02 AM ![]() |

Interview: Ranchero's Brent Simmons[MacSlash]Nice idea, but it would be even better if they added an RSS feed for this particular topic, so that I could follow the "interview" in my aggregator! 10:34:32 AM ![]() |
