Tomorrow I hope to install and play with the Radio myPictures tool in order to return "The Cutest Puppy in the World" to her rightful throne on the Web.  She's ready for her close-up, Mr. DeMille!

Here's something scary: David.Weekly put together "a simple graph showing who owns what within the online music technology space." Heaven help us all. (Note the graphic is in PNG format so you should use Internet Explorer or some other browser that handles this format.) [via Matt Goyer]

What will they think of next? Is there anything that can't be Googled? Go on, I dare you.  Send me a Google Instant Message. [in BurningBird]

Wacky Uses. "'Wacky' uses for household products. Not so wacky, really, but interesting! Prevent an ant invasion. Draw a line of Crayola Chalk around windows and doors outside your home, and around water pipes inside your home. Ants will not cross a chalk line." [via bOing bOing]

Filing away for future use. That's one of the great things about having your own blog. It's my new virtual filing cabinet.

Fretwell-Downing Software Chosen by the California Digital Library "Another feature created by Fretwell-Downing's software is the ability to let the UC library ILL staff handle growing volumes of loans and concentrate on service enhancements. Also, with the new OpenURL technology, the extended UC ILL services can include materials found in commercially produced article databases licensed by the California Digital Library. The combination of the Request service and OpenURL technology allows UC scholars, students, and staff to initiate a request directly from the commercial database search results screens." [in Information Today]

We really need to get our butts in gear in Illinois and add interlibrary loan functionality to the Virtual Illinois Catalog (VIC). We're migrating from SiteSearch to MetaStar, but we still have to settle on ILL software.  Our original plan called for ILL back in 2000.  Sigh.

For those of you using the Movable Type blogging software, Meryl shows you how to make it available for PDA readers.

So far the Kevin Bacon Visa commercial is my favorite during the Super Bowl.

First Weblog entries via SMS "The post below was submitted via a NTT Docomo i-mode phone's email application (all the way from Japan). Maybe it's the first Radio weblog posting to come in via i-mode?? We used the P503i model phone, which has a version of J2ME built in. The first Java enabled phone in the world. This particular phone was available in Japan almost 1 year ago!" [via Alan A. Reiter: Wireless Blogging]

Al also points us towards JapanInYourPalm.com, a site that provides "western professionals and their families a new and comprehensive information source that simplifies and enhances the experience in Japan" via handhelds.

(Almost) Free Movies On-Line... Sorta "See the latest movies on the net? Its possible - apparently the law in Taiwan says that for a movie to be protected by copyright law one has to apply for such protection within a month after the opening in the theaters. This rarely happens and as a consequence movie88 has opened a virtual movieplex: See any of their films for 1 dollar. The movie is streamed in a format that doesn't allow you to save it on the harddrive, but for that 1 dollar you can view it anytime and as much as you like for 3 days." [via Slashdot]

It's amazing how many movies are available here. Check it out now, though, because as the Slashdot post notes, it probably won't be up for long.

And speaking of Mr. Reiter, I'll be adding his Wireless Data Web Log and Wireless Blogging sites to my news watch. You may want to do the same.

Whoo-hoo! I've got email to the blog working. I don't think I'll use this very often for the blog itself, but it does open up possibilities for my own knowledge management situation. I could post important emails that I want access to from anywhere in a special "category" that isn't public. I think. Alan Reiter sees potential for wireless posting to blogs via email rather than the Web once we have access to high-bandwidth cellular networks.

The Paradox of the Best Network So much to applaud about this essay, its arguments, and the solutions proposed. It's a wonderful expression of the Internet - and hence information - as a public good that benefits everyone. Just like libraries. [kuro5hin.org]

"We must not allow the short-sighted self-interest of the incumbent telecommunications industry to thwart the connectedness that will enlarge us as social creatures. Our destiny as a species has always been to be connected. The new network — open, fast and out of control — will change what is most important about us lonely humans: the way we join together with others to become more than we are alone."

"These steps to keep the infrastructure open will be in vain if vested interests use other means (legal and technological) to expand restrictions to content and reduce free flow of ideas in the public domain.  The laws governing copyright should be brought back to their original purpose to ensure the free flow of information that is critical to the functioning of a free, open society."

Can I get an amen!
