Purse of the encavator, revisited
Here's another grab-bag posting.
I liked that phrase (Purse of the encavator)
that the babelizer came up with last year.
Silly:
I forget where I found Flan-the-weblog (added to my aggregator
some time ago), and I don't even like Flan-the-dessert,
but I had to link to
Flan's list of the "5 Stages of Software Grief".
Social:
And I found a link somewhere, to
a fairly comprehensive-looking
list of social networking websites.
Psycho:
In
Language Log,
Mark Liberman
gossips about "Ian"'s weird-sounding vowel shifts.
After living in the LA area for my first 23 years or so,
I moved to upstate New York.
One odd sentence I kinda recall sounded like
"Kinney gave Dayney a ride ahn his mopud".
Almost every short vowel had been weirdly shifted from
its normal sound. I never did figure out whether that
was the standard for upstate New York stoners, or
this was someone from, say, Alabama by way of
Quebec or something.
