Beautiful South Bay Sights
This past weekend took us to San Jose - 84 - La Honda -
San Gregorio - Pescadero and back home to Ben Lomond.
Just some brief notes ...
San Jose Ballet gala ...
Saw a wonderful scene from their Out of Africa production.
Our dinner table included a ballerina from cuba, a society columnist,
our gracious hosts, and the ballet's artistic director.
On the way back to our room (I was still wearing a tuxedo),
Deborah and I sneaked out to the pool area to have a look.
Up 280 and over 84 to visit Joe and see whether we want
to get another puppy for Penny.
Out to San Gregorio and down along Highway 1. Just
Gorgeous. Sorry, no photos.
Stopped in at Pescadero, and had a look in the
Made in Pescadero gallery/store.
Very cool stuff. We were admiring this one table
in particular. Turns out that the artists are
twin brothers named Meier, and one of the twins was there
at Made-in-Pescadero today. So we got to tell him how much
we liked
his work.
The pictures I've linked to in this weblog entry
are of tables like the one we saw. It's a bit hard to tell
in the photo, but what looks like a tablecloth in these
pictures is actually wood.
We had dinner next door to the gallery, at Duarte's.
I had read about the place, but never eaten there.
I'll be back — it was great. We had some soup that
is apparently one of their trademarks — the
"half and half" soup (half artichoke soup and
half green chile). I had a very good artichoke ravioli,
with outstanding rose sauce (marinara plus a hint of
cream (or maybe some other whitener): enough to
make it orange-ish, but not enough to make it heavy).
A nice evening drive took us home past Año Nuevo,
a short detour up Swanton Road, and through the west side
of Santa Cruz.
