Report from Big Sur

It's only a little more than an hour and a half from home, but seems like worlds away. We really ought to get down there more often, there sure is some beautiful coastline along there.

It's still the summer of 1967 in Big Sur: Check out a performance of the BigSurNatives some time (we just missed one). Their cards are available at the Big Sur River Inn.
Pfeiffer Beach (at the end of Sycamore Canyon Road) is closed indefinitely. Apparently the facilities were being redone for better handicapped access and habitat protection, but the contractor skipped town. See the Carmel Pine Cone article.
One very hot day (over 90) dragged in a big pile of fog for the next couple of days.
The waterfall at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park is called either McWay Falls, McWay Creek Falls, or Saddle Rock Falls, depending on where you read about it. One blurb claims that it's the only tidefall in California, but there's another one in Point Reyes. http://www.coastnews.com/monterey/waterfalls.htm
Actually, there's yet another (though it's tiny and seasonal) at Garrapata State Park.
There's a pricey campground at Ventana.
The nice view from Sierra Mar (the Post Ranch's restaurant) isn't so great when it's foggy.
