Audio Blogs. I'm not a big fine of audio blogs or audio postings. It's not that they are bad or anything, they just fail to command my attention. When I read something, my mind is fully engaged, my attention focused on what the author has to say. On the other hand, when I'm listening to an asynchronous one-sided posting (i.e. audio blog), it quickly turns into a background task. It's like listening to the radio. I start out listening intently, but then start thinking that I might as well be using my eyes and hands to perform some other task at the same time. Before long, I've lost track of what is being said. I'll let the audio run, tuning in from time to time if something captures my attention. I suppose my point is that an audio posting has to be extremely compelling to capture my attention. While it is important for written content to also be compelling, I exercise more patience with it. That is because I can easily skim over anything trivial, uninteresting, or already known in a written piece. I cannot skim audio. |
