Dataquest PDA report predicts Dell and Toshiba will lead Third quarter worldwide oersonal digital assistant (PDA) shipments were 2.6 million, up just 0.9 percent from the same period last year, according to preliminary results of a Dataquest study. According to Dataquest, worldwide, Palm's shipments accounted for 30.6 percent of the market share, Hewlett-Packard had 14.4 percent, Sony claimed 13 percent and Toshiba 5.5 percent. Handspring's market share dropped from 13.5 percent in the year ago quarter to just 3.8 percent this quarter. However, the Handspring Treo was not included in the numbers. "Others" accounted for 32.7 percent of the market. "Dell and Toshiba appear ready to lead this battle," said Todd Kort, principal analyst for Dataquest.
