VoiceXML edges closer to standard status. The Voice Extensible Markup Language (VoiceXML) 2.0 specification has been granted Proposed Recommendation status by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), and is therefore only one step away from becoming an official W3C standard, the VoiceXML Forum said in a statement Tuesday. Airgo Raises $25 Million. Airgo Networks, a chipmaker, gathered $25 million to help with the start of volume shipments of its Wi-Fi chips, which should be available early this year: Airgo uses multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) technology, which it says can delver 108 Mbps while maintaining interoperability with Wi-Fi standards. Airgo also claims that the technology boosts coverage three to ten times further than other chips.
