China: All poised to launch 3G - unofficial. China's mobile telecommunication conditions are basically ready for the launch of third generation mobile technology (3G), and the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) will make a decision on 3G development this year. It is rumoured that conditions for China to develop 3G are basically ready as the country has developed a complete set of 3G products, including network, end-user products, chips and software. Stop bullshutting about i-mode take-up outside Japan!. There are sometimes annoying noise about i-mode difficult take upoutside Japan. However, almost all i-mode Content Provider admit that i-mode business is doing better than any other portal. And many non i-mode CP's look at i-mode business as the ideal model ! Why that? May be one of the reason is that some carriers I cant mention here (red, orange colors) have bad habits to count someone who has downloaded once upon the time a Ringtone as an "active user". Therefore, on the paper its easy for them to announce millions of so called "active users?". But real "active user" on i-mode means user that is loyal and generate revenues every month. DoCoMo's i-mode all over the world!. Since 12th july its is possible to access Japanese i-mode portail from all over the world. I bought a N901iG 2 days ago in Tokyo. Back in Paris, I am testing it. Its impressive. Possible to browse i-mode, sent and receive email and SMS and ... if you are rich you can even try the visio conf ! I just did one yesterday PM just landing in Paris, with a friend in Roppongi (it was midnight there).. crazy experience ! If you want to acquire a N900iG, the price is 46.000 yen for the terminal. Skype and VOIP on mobile "not killer app". Since Skype launched its palmtop client in April, more than 1.8-million people have downloaded the software worldwide. USA: Mobile data market grows 80%, SMS makes impact. The value of the US mobile data market increased by around 80% during the year to March 2005, according to the June 2005 edition of Informa Telecoms & Media's World Cellular Data Metrics, as interoperability agreements finally helped SMS make a significant impact on the market, which has traditionally lagged behind Europe and Asia. China: Ericsson still confident China will opt for 3G rollout. Ericsson CEO said he is still confident China will opt for a 3G rather than 2G roll out despite delays in awarding licences. Speaking during a conference call following the release of second quarter results, Svanberg said 3G offers the more cost effective solution for Chinese operators, but added that either 2G or 3G would offer a good business proposition to Ericsson if it won a network construction order.
