Gale Norton resigns
Secretary of the Interior, Gale Norton has resigned. Her letter to the president explained that she wanted to move back home to Colorado, back to the rooftop of America, under the shadows of the Rocky Mountains. Here's an article from the Pueblo Chieftain.
From the article, "Interior Secretary Gale Norton's announcement that she is resigning brought praise from current and former Colorado lawmakers Friday, who credited her with taking controversial but balanced positions on Western water and energy development.
"Environmental groups were sharply critical, however, saying Norton's philosophy and record was pro-industry, pro-drilling and lax on regulation."
There is a good deal of speculation in some corners that her resignation is related to Jack Abramoff's troubles.
Coyote Gulch will remember Ms. Norton as the force behind the recent agreement amongst the Colorado Basin states over management of the river during drought. Of course some would acknowledge that the states forged the agreement under the fear that Norton would be the person deciding. (We're from the Federal government and we're here to help.)
