2003 Denver Municipal Election

Campaign finance disclosures are due today according to the Rocky Mountain News. From the article, "Denver Auditor Don Mares raised $956,000 for his failed mayoral bid, according to a campaign finance report filed Wednesday. Mares pulled in roughly $46,000 from late May through June and spent all but $2,700 of his overall total, the financial disclosure form shows. Mares fell short of Mayor-elect John Hickenlooper, who raised more than $2 million for his mayoral run, and Ari Zavaras, who lost a preliminary election in May despite raising $1.06 million."

Mayor-elect Hickenlooper is planning 3 inaugural picnics around Denver on July 20th and and a garden party on the 21st according to the Denver Post. The event expenses will be covered by donations to the Denver Public Schools Foundation. From the article, "Hickenlooper expects the inaugural events to cost $50,000, but he hopes to raise as much as $250,000 in donations. The foundation could then use the extra money for athletic, arts and after-school programs." Here's the coverage from the Rocky Mountain News.
