2004 Presidential Election
Wesley Clark is taking is calling for an investigation into statements the Dick Cheney made in an interview with the Rocky Mountain News last week, according to the Rocky [January 26, 2004, "Clark decries VP's comments to News"]. From the article, "The Weekly Standard article was based on leaked intelligence reports that had been forwarded to Congress. In response to the story, the Department of Defense said certain still-classified raw intelligence reports had been sent to the Senate Intelligence Committee but that it was "inaccurate" to report that officials had confirmed new information about ties between Iraq and al-Qaida." Mike Littwin writes about the new decaf Howard Dean in his column it today's Rocky [January 26, 2004, "Littwin: In overheated race, Dean banks his fires"]. Littwin is wondering, as are all of us watching this campaign, if Howard Dean can overcome the dip in his poll numbers after the third place finish in Iowa.
Here's an article that focuses on the veteran status of John Kerry and Wesley Clark as advantages going into tomorrow's primary in New Hampshire [January 26, 2004, "Dems' race for vets may be 2-man fight"]. One New Hampshire father is quoted as saying, "I don't want my two sons - they're approaching teenage years - I don't want them hitting that age and have a commander in chief who doesn't understand the seriousness of war." It appears that the issues around the war in Iraq will not go away soon in this election year. The question is how it will play with the voters.

Here's the latest American Research Group tracking poll for New Hampshire. John Kerry is far out in front with 38%, Howard Dean is second with 20%. Wesley Clark and John Edwards fill out the top of the pack with 16% 1nd 15% respectively. Joe Lieberman, who seemed to be gaining momentum is tied with Undecided at 5%. The Daily Kos has the numbers for three February 3rd states along with New Hampshire. Dean really needs a good showing tomorrow.
