Coyote Gulch reports on Denver elections, that is, elections that registered voters in Denver County can vote in. But we do pay attention to what's happening around the state. We've been getting regular mud-slinging emails from the Democratic primary in congressional district 7.
This is interesting to watch if you're an election junkie. It's a form of "peeling the onion," using email. The entire population of registered voters comprise the layers. The negative email peels off a few voters at a time. Supporters forward it on to contacts. TV and print get story ideas, and tips. Bloggers spread the word. A response will never reach all of the people that the originator did. Different networks.
Even with a well crafted response there will be an erosion of votes. Responses are often weak or ineffective. We think the counter strategy is to attempt to drive the conversation. A good method to use is to attack the strengths of the opposition.
Email is inexpensive to operate. There are hosting services that can handle the heavy lifting, including automated collection of addresses. You can build a base of support quickly and build value for the campaign. You can reach your list quickly. Many voters can now operate email software and welcome the information.
We would be amenable to awarding a coveted Gulchie in the CO-7 primary. Send your nominations to coyotegulch AT mac DOT com, or use the handy, "e-mail John," link below the blogroll.
