Wayne Wolf is on a tour of western Colorado this week, drumming up support for his run at U.S. Senator Wayne Allard's seat next year. Here's a report from The Durango Herald. From the article:
A two-term Delta County commissioner who has his eye on the U.S. Senate seat that Wayne Allard has decided not to defend next year, said Thursday he favors tempering political power in Washington with the expertise of people closer to the action. "There's a lot of fighting in Washington and a little arrogance," Wayne Wolf told The Durango Herald . "They're not listening to the experts on how states, counties and cities should operate." The experts, Wolf said, are local officials when it comes to municipal services, physicians and hospital administrators on questions of health care, or county clerks on election matters. "Politicians should be facilitators," Wolf said. "They should respect the expertise of the people they deal with." He was making his third swing through the state, visiting Telluride, Dolores, Cortez and Durango. Wolf, 56, a fifth-generation Colorado cattleman, represents the Cedaredge area of Delta County.
As a senator, Wolf said he would: Protect domestic agriculture, industry and business by making foreign firms meet the same regulations as U.S. firms -- "Free trade is not necessarily fair trade," Wolf said; Keep U.S. troops in Iraq until the government there can get along without them; Search for a way to improve air quality in Southwest Colorado; Support Supreme Court candidates similar to those appointed by President Bush; Support rural development that would make agriculture profitable enough to discontinue commodity payments.
