Here's an interview with Bob Schaffer from The Sterling Journal Advocate. They write:

Schaffer said he has the experience that is right for the job of representing Colorado in the Senate because he has "real-world business experience, some experience in public policy and six years in the State Legislature," in addition to his time in the U.S. House. Because of all of that, Schaffer said he has found that there are too many politicians in Washington who do want to be there and who have forgotten about making it a visit, instead of a home...

"I believe the current Congress is out of touch with the American people," Schaffer said. "They have squandered the confidence of the American people." He said one of the problems is "high levels of partisanship in Washington." When he served in the U.S. House, Schaffer honored a self-imposed term limit, just as Allard is doing by retiring from the Senate this year. He said one of his strong suits was honoring his word to voters and people, in general. "I tend to follow through on commitments that I make," Schaffer said...

Schaffer is very much aware of the importance agriculture plays in Colorado's economy, too, though, and he said he would work hard in the Senate to promote ag and water issues. "I'm the only one (in this race) with a track record of promoting agriculture and water issues that are distinctly for the eastern plains (of Colorado)," he said. He said he would look to the U.S. Senate to provide more markets and storage options to farmers and ranchers. "We've got to systematically remove fixed government costs of doing business," he said, "and have environmental standards that make sense, not just punish people."
