Denver November 2003 Election

Westword is helping you determine your election knowledge with this quiz.

We finally have some poll results to look at with respect to Referendum A, Amendment 32, and Amendment 33. According to the Rocky Mountain News [October 30, 2003, "Poll: 'Big Three' are sinking"] all three are failing to woo enough voters for approval. From the article, "Opponents of the video-gambling initiative successfully labeled it "the big lie," he said, and tied it to the indictment of a British company that owns most of Colorado's animal racing tracks. Ciruli said most voters couldn't understand Amendment 32 - as evidenced by the the large number of undecideds - and said that shows how hard it could be to reform Colorado property-tax laws. He said the big surprise was the water measure - particularly that the poll indicated it was failing in the metro area, where proponents were counting on support. It also was failing by a huge margin on the Western Slope, a more expected result." Here's the coverage from the Denver Post [October 30, 2003, "Statewide ballot initiatives facing defeat, survey finds"].

Some businesses are backing Amendment 32, according to the Denver Post [October 30, 2003, "Amend. 32 garners business backing"].

Election officials are reporting problems with mail-in ballots, according to the Denver Post [October 30, 2003, "Hundreds of ballots to be tossed"]. Denver alone will be tossing 550 so far. Did I sign my name?.
