Although I don't have cable, I do have a computer, so I tuned into C-SPAN to check out last evening's Democratic candidate's forum. (Link requires Real player - hey c-span, ever heard of QuickTime?) Since I just found out who the opposition candidates are, I hoped to learn a bit about their individual positions. Here are some quotes from the 'debate'.
"[The late senator] Paul Simon liked governor Dean, but he loved me." - Carol Mosley Braun

"I'm the only one up here who voted against the Patriot Act and against the war." - Dennis Kucinich

"... if I were an impolite person ..." - John F. Kerry

"The Republicans are selling our government and our country to the highest bidder." - Richard Gephardt

"I'm gonna be the president to [...] lead a Marshall Plan for the muslim world." - Joe Lieberman

"Even though you're lower in the polls - your lower ratings than Saturday Night Live - I showed up anyway." - Al Sharpton (to Ted Koppel when questioned about his poll numbers.

"[Bush's] failure to keep the American people safe, on nine eleven, and then to take us into a war without justification ..." - Wesley Clark

"[Bush] personallizes policy difference and that is a fatal mistake." - Howard Dean

"It's not just George Bush, it's these powerful lobbies and special interests. [...] We have an unholy alliance with the President. [...] We have lobbiests from the energy industry writing our energy bill." - John Edwards

"All the presidents have been boys. At some point we need to make the point that women have a role in providing leadership for this country." - Carol Mosley Braun

"Americans are dying around ... what cause and purpose?" - Al Sharpton

"If the axis of evil, the Saddam loyalists, win this one ..." - Joe Lieberman

"I have a plan, on my website, at kucinich dot u s ..." - Dennis Kucinich

"Bring the religious leaders of the world together, the Pope, the Archbishop, the mullahs, the imams, the clerics, the, ah, the Dali Lama - have a global effort to understand the true state of Islam, the true role of religion, the true role of secular society, and move the world to a better place." - John Kerry (as you know, me and the Dali Lama are politically aligned, and we don't this would work out...)

"Remember the constitution of the United States, ladies and gentlemen." - Carol Mosley Braun

"I'm glad to hear Howard Dean confirm, because I've seen some confusing statements by him before, that he agrees that we can't pull out of Iraq ..." - Joe Lieberman

"This policy is not about Haliburton, it's about Iraq." - John Kerry

"We are not comming up with an energy policy ... we are not working with the world to get a trading alliance..." - Richard Gephardt

"Now I may be inconvienent for some of those in the media - but, uh, you know, I'm sorry about that." - Dennis Kucinich (this guy is funny!)

"This president has lost three million jobs, he has given tax cuts to people who make a million dollars a year, of one hundred twelve thousand dollars. Sixty percent of us got three hundred and twenty dollars." - Howard Dean

There may be errors in the quotes. Although I tried to be accurate, I also turned the debate into a pol-speak drinking game.

Gammatron (phase ii) rants a bit about I 238 being malnumbered.

Get over it Paul. All the roads in California are whack - all of 'em. Look at a very popular inter-urb, the 5. One the south end, the 5 splits off the 805 before it conjoins with the 8. Ok, but then on the other end, the 5 splits off the 405 which doesn't connect with the (nonexistant) 4. But it does hook up with the 10, via the 510, you may ask. No, but a bunch of other malnumbered highways, including the 101, which suddenly appears near Burbank after being abandoned somewhere in south Orange County.

Ok, the 101's obviously my favorite street, but what is it called now-a-days? The 101, the 1, PCH, freakin' Hill Street!?! In fact, just before it disappars under the Marine base, the coast highway turns into El Camino Real - another street entirely!

Just whack.
