Jon Udell: Is it my imagination, or is everyone and everything now connected to every other one and every other thing?
OK, now I've finally gotten around to doing it. I've registered intertwingly.net. Until this makes the rounds of DNS servers, you can see my experimentation at http://intertwingly.net.sc.sabren.com. For now I've (unsuccessfully) tried to upload my radio weblog there.
Why intertwingly? Like Jon, I consider myself an extreme anti-extremist... bundle of contradictions. There's more than one way to do it. Examples: I believe that one can like strongly typed languages like Java without hating dynamic languages like PHP. Or like SOAP without finding it necessary to dis REST.
I love metadata as I believe that it facilitates connections, particularly when it is open and extensible. I'm also a referrer log junkie. I also believe that it is important to try to Grok before worrying.
Finally, I feel it necessary to comment in advance on my future experimentations. I will be playing with non-Radio tools. I'm sure that some people out there will see it as a repudiation of UserLand and/or Dave Winer. It is nothing of the sort, more accurately, it is a reflection that I am really not representative of Radio's target audience. So if you are the type of person who would prefer to edit your blog entries in vim or deploy a J2EE based XML publishing framework, then follow my lead. As for me, I will be tickled if some of my thoughts and prototypes influence the further development of the excellent products which are out there. Like Radio.
