Apple Oct. 12th announcement
So, Apple did unveil a Video iPod. Kind of. They call it an iPod, they didn't put a big screen, they almost don't have content for it. I am not overly excited about all the announcement. I guess with the iMac, Apple will try to keep the interest going until they have new processors. And it is a good machine. The fact that there are no new Powerbooks worries me. It is the most backwards of all Apple's lines. With respect to video, I wonder if you can burn the videos you buy on a DVD, if you can't the DRM would be even harsher than the one for music. It wasn't mentioned so I suspect the answer is no. The resolutions on the video is... bad, to say the least. But nevertheless, they take a hell of a time to download (though it may be more of a problem today). I think Apple is well prepared for the holiday season, I also fear they have to hurry up with the new stuff or Wall Street will punish them (I mean, they punish them for succeeding imaging if they fail!).
Update: You can't burn videos on DVD, which means your Videos belong to Apple not to you. There is no safe way to back them up. If for any reason you don't have internet and a new machine, or Apple is not reachable or whatever (there could be a million reasons), you won't be able to see your payed for videos. That's the price of DRM, I am unwilling to pay it.
