Researchers tie obesity to Alzheimer's.

If heart disease and diabetes aren’t bad enough, now comes another reason to watch your weight. According to a study just released, packing on too many pounds can increase the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. A team has shown that being extremely overweight or obese increases the likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s.

Suicide risk does not increase when adults start using antidepressants.

The risk of serious suicide attempts or death by suicide generally decreases in the weeks after patients start taking antidepressant medication, according to a new study led by Group Health Cooperative researchers and published in the January issue of The American Journal of Psychiatry. The study also found that the risk of suicidal behavior after starting 10 newer antidepressant medications is less than the risk posed by older medications.

Night eating most common among people with psych conditions.

According to a new study, night eating syndrome is a common disorder among psychiatric outpatients and is associated with substance use and obesity. Night eating syndrome is a condition that is characterized by two main features: excessive eating in the evening (hyperphagia) and nocturnal awakening with ingestion of food. Its prevalence has been estimated to be 1.5% in the general population and 8.9% in an obesity clinic.
