FDA Approves the First Drug for Seasonal Depression. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Wellbutrin XL for prevention of major depressive episodes in patients with a history of seasonal affective disorder (SAD). This is the first drug approved for SAD. Wellbutrin XL (bupropion HCL extended release tablets) previously was approved for treatment of major depressive disorder.

Animal Study Shows THC Impairs Learning in Adolescents. The main active compound in marijuana leads to greater short-term impairment of learning in adolescent rats than in adults, according to researchers at Duke University Medical Center. The study directly compared the effects of delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) on the memory ability of adolescent and adult rats in order to learn if rats -- and possibly humans -- are more sensitive to THC at certain life stages.
