Telstra ADSL update - Still down. That's 15 hours now.

Telstra - I understand that the ADSL network is "complex" as your recorded message contonues to advise me. I understand that sometimes things go wrong. I understand that sometimes they take a long time to fix.

What I don't understand is why you, as the nations largest ISP and largest corporation [of which I might add, I am a shareholder in my own right, and as a citizen of this nation] you don't give your ADSL customers a complimentary dial-in account to use if and when ADSL should ever go down.

If your cunning anti-customer mind suddenly thinks I may exploit this benefit, and choose to dial-in rather than use my ADSL connection, you'd be crazy. Why crawl when I can run?

It would be a great show of appreciation for your loyal customers - and great PR.

Go on an do it...

Telstra ADSL stinks - Well again Telstra's ADSL seems to be plagued with problems. Yesterday Jonathon was offline for a couple of hours in the morning - I was able to have partial access to the web, being able to update my new Movable Type blog as well as use Google. Yet strangely many web sites were unavailable.

Today - nothing. Zip. Zilch. Zot. Nicks.

One of the myths of the internet that I was told as a newbie was that "the internet is a vast network of computers, developed by the US military to be capable of withstanding a big war. The information will just find a way, any way, through this network. The information will always get through!

What a myth that turned out to be. The logic runs like this: if I can see one web site - by this fable, I should be able to see all web sites.

Nah. If this story was ever true [and I have no reason to doubt the popular computer press that informed me] capitalism has blown it yet again...
