Los Angeles Car Show

Yesterday I visited the LA Car Show accompanied by the foremost authority on things Automotive (and things Java ) - my buddy Dan. I brought along my Nikon and snapped a couple of shots of the more unusual vehicles. Overall this year was not nearly as exciting as last year. Some models that we saw as production ready concept cars (like the Nissan Fairlady) have made it into actuality. But overall, it seemed much more sedate and less exhuberant than last year.

So lets talk about cars. There were two or three specific makes that stick out in my mind. First off there is Merceds-Benz' ultra high end model, the Maybach. What a car! You definitely need a chauffeur with such a vehicle. The one on display was a very elegant two-tone english Sage green color with the most buttery smooth interior you've ever seen. I got a kick out of the champagne bottle and glasses in a sort of pull out console dividing the back seat. Another funky ultra chic touch was little fabric courtains in the back window, along the lines of the cars that diplpomats and heads of state used to drive.

At the other end of the spectrum were a number of Gen Y box cars. From the Honda Element to the Nissan Cube to the newest entry in the field, Toyota's newly minted Scion brand.

There were several crowd pleasers, among them the much anticipated new Mazda RX7. And while we were in the Mazda concourse I got a chance to see the new 6. It seemed an impressive package. Not bad at all.

Among the exotics that were on display I noticed the new Ferrari Enzo - but it was about 30 feet away from any person, cordoned off and well protected. Guess Ferrari doesn't like people touching their goods.

Unfortunately because of lighting and crowds some of my shots didn't come out as well as I might have hoped.
