MP3 Player Shipments in 2003 Forecasted to Top 3.5 Million in U.S.

As reported by Business Wire on December 9, Jupiter Research forecasts that U.S. shipments of MP3 players will almost double in 2003 to over 3.5 million, and will continue to grow almost 50 percent per year for the next three years. Demand for MP3 players with hard drives will outstrip demand for those with flash memory starting in 2004. And, by 2006, the installed base of MP3 players will top 26 million, establishing a mass of users expected to help spur digital music sales.[ProSound News]

The BBC's support for RSS...

RSS in my heart. The BBC's support for RSS isn't new, but it is newly explained on their site. For example, if you scroll to the bottom of the index page for UK news, in the lower right corner you'll see a menu item called "RSS version." Click to visit a page that explains what RSS is all about, and links to the feed for the page you came from. It requires a little digging to find all the goodies, but the payoff is huge because the BBC has so much you can subscribe to. Now there's a way to find it from the BBC site. [Scripting News]

Aye, Hal, Such Commotion as if 'Twere the Globe

After a little preparation, New York City high school students were a rapt, if noisy, audience for Lincoln Center Theater's "Henry IV." [New York Times: Arts] '"They clearly had been very well prepared," Mr. Kline said of the students. "They were certainly very attentive and picked up on little things that often go unnoticed by other audiences."

Indeed, few nuances escaped them, especially any involving sexual innuendo. Falstaff was a huge favorite with the students, and almost every gesture in Mr. Kline's performance drew laughter. When he compared Mistress Quickly to an otter — "she's neither fish nor flesh; a man knows not where to have her" — he brought down the house.'
