Say is isn't so, please say it isn't so.
- The Cubs are in first place.
- The Yankees are coming to town Saturday for the first time in 50 some years.
- Roger Clemens will be on the mound Saturday in Wrigley Field for the Yankees taking his third shot at his 300th win.
- Kerry Wood will be starting for the Cubs in this game. He grew up in Texas idolizing a fellow Texan Roger Clemens.
This is simply baseball's version of too good to be true. It just doesn't get any better. What could possibly detract from this baseball fan's dream game which is scheduled for Saturday ? What would it take to remove the spotlight on this series and this game ? It would take something bizarre, right ? something absolutely huge ? something on the order of Rose betting on baseball ?
Well, as I'm sure you know by now, Sammy Sosa's true colors came out this evening. It was like a dagger through the heart of this baseball fan's heart (not to mention this Cubs fan's heart). I find it amazing that I turned on the game just as they are looking at the bat. Only Sammy Sosa could mess this up. No argument, no nothing from he or Dusty Baker. Maybe Sammy figures they took away steroids from him so he thinks he can cheat with a corked bat ?
I remember Jim Lefevre getting in his face because he is a worthless self centered ego driven jerk a few years back just before they sent him (Lefevre) packing. He was know for his self centeredness then suddenly he and Big Mac started swinging for the fences and he became America's darling. How could he have changed ? Is it possible he is now Mr. Baseball and the center off all that is right in baseball (at a time when there wasn't much going right). It was and is a sham.
Today, Sammy Sosa's true colors shown through all the hype. Only Sammy could do something this sad and ruin what could have been the greatest weekend of baseball in Chicago in 50 years. Suddenly with one swing of the bat (cork), the need for a third basemen just doesn't seem important anymore.
