The co-op people removed my name from Microsoft's interview schedule because "I withdrew from the co-op process" !
A couple weeks ago, at the Microsoft info session, t-jenns. introduced me to the MS recruiter, so I got the coveted "Jenn Referral" note on my resume. However, weeks past, other students in co-op heard back either yes or no, but I still had no word from Redmond. Today, I sent this letter to Lindsay:
Hi. We spoke briefly at the Microsoft info. session at ground zero a couple weeks ago. Jenn Schachter introduced us and I gave you my resume. I was just wondering if you had a chance to take a look at it. In case it's not at the top of your mind, here's a brief summary of why Microsoft wants to hire me:
- I'm 3rd year CS/C&O double major at U. Waterloo with a 90% major average.
- Have worked in a software development role for 4 previous work-terms doing a huge variety of things such as: data compression, math research, xml web-services, MFC dev., build automation, database design, wireless stuff, web development, concurrent programming ...
- Strong C and C++ programming skills.
- Co-conceived, developed, promoted, then sold the internet music tipping system Fairtunes.com.
- Not in the co-op program (which explains this email), but I'm looking for a job for the upcoming (fall) work-term.
Please let me know if we can meet for an interview while you and your people are on campus interviewing co-op students. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.
Here's her reply (!):
We chose you for interviews but you were taken off the list b/c you withdrew from the coop process? What happened?
Withdrew? Yeah, sure I withdrew ... three years ago before even arriving at the university! But what does this have to do with trying to spoil my MS chances today?!? I explained everything, and now we're looking at doing the interview at the end of the day Friday. Nice!
The moral of this story is: Always follow up when you submit a resume -and- Co-op is evil!
