John Robb writes and K-Logs and Instant Messaging. I think this type of thing is a good idea. I used to work for was a TAB and one of their biggest days was the Melbourne Cup race. During this day regular updates on betting volume were sent to a internal newsgroup/bulletin board. Staff would check this board for updates to see how the day was going. This type of thing would be great to be sent out via instant messaging for those interested (and there were a lot).

In another job, I was involved in preparing adhoc reports for an insurance company. I was constantly having to update the information, mail it around to interested parties, get requests for alternative views on the data, resend that out, etc. Having the ability to post this to a K-log and have interested parties subscribe to it and get notified of updates would have been very useful and very popular among the management.

As well as instant messaging I think sending out via SMS to cellphones could be a useful option too. I think some instant messaging clients can do this too. ICQ and maybe Jabber?
