MASTERCARD INTL -- Online billing is starting to change the way consumers settle their accounts. With more than 3.6 million U.S. households logging on to pay their bills, this number represents less than one percent of monthly bill paying, but the potential for billers and processors is huge. In the States, consumers receive 18 billion statements every year. With traditional payment methods, billers must lay out more than $1.00 per invoice. When paid electronically, the cost drops approximately to $0.40, saving approximately $8 billion. [Ruth Ann Marshall in conference]
