Yesterday morning, the following message mysteriously appeared in my browser when I started IE:

The latest version of Windows Update is only available on computers that are running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP.I use Windows 98SE. I paid for it and do not intend to upgrade in the near future, despite Microsoft's hardball tactics, which apparently include monitoring of users' individual computers. Perhaps the timing of it has something to do with this.
