This is my first post after reinstalling Radio 8. This is a clean install so none of my categories or prior pages are available and I haven't modified any of the prefs yet. Since I lost the hard disk that had my old Radio install, this is going to be an experiment to see if I can get back to posting without damaging any of the existing HTML pages or templates.
Since Radio doesn't have a sync feature, so that two machines can run Radio, but keep their data up-to-date on both boxes which seems like a pretty basic feature to me, I'm going to install Radio on my notebook this time, so I can blog while travelling. I was tempted to simply use file synchronization between my desktop and notebook, but given the number of files and object databases Radio uses that sounds like a recipe for disaster.
Okay, now I have the categories defined and most of the prefs set.
I've updated the main template, let's see if I broke anything in the process. That seemed to work.
Since I started this process I've noticed that the posts that were previously on the home page are no longer there, nor are there any calendar links, so I suspect this is where I'm in trouble because the original posts are no longer in the local database. I have the generated HTML from the site, so I can always start reentering the old posts, but since there appears to be little traffic to the old posts I think I'll just keep that as a backup plan.
My next post which will be for PythonCard is probably going to wipe out that category home page. Read the PythonCard and Web Services category pages while you still can :)
Indeed, it appears that since Radio doesn't have my previous posts in its database, it leaves the old public pages alone, but the home page and main category pages lose the calendar links to previous posts once you've updated those pages. So, that means I'll probably start reposting the most important old content items so that Google can still it.
