Bush's State of the Union Address, Buzzflash - Addressing Bush's State of Disunion, The Boston Globe - George W Bush and the Real State of the Union, lndependent/UK QUOTE OF THE DAY "Some truth there was, but dash'd and brew'd with lies. To please the fools, and puzzle all the wise." - - John Dryden (1631 - 1700) KNOW YOUR HISTORY - JANUARY 21st 1977 -- US President Jimmy Carter issues unconditional pardon to most Vietnam draft resisters on his first full day in office. Affects between 100,000 to 500,000 people. RHINO HERE: Having just finished listening to shrub give his state of the union address, I'm only impressed by what an accomplished bold-faced liar he is. If you want to know how much & how long he's been honing his lying skills, The Rhino highly recommends the book, "BUSHWACKED" by a true Texan Patriot, Molly Ivins. She's been keeping track of the difference between what shrub says & what he does, for years, including his gubernatorial reign in The Lone Star State. So please urge your family & friends to not be sucked into his sweet-talking facade. Let them know the damage to thousands of Americans & people throughout the world, caused by his actions, don't match the compassionate tones of his promises. The information is available if only the people will search it out. As Molly says in her book, the man is "as slick as bus station chili." Today's blog offers a host of summarized information on the state of the union that shrub didn't mention. What Bush Really Should Have Said in His State of the Union Address, If He Were Inclined to Tell the Truth for Once A BUZZFLASH READER COMMENTARY, January 21, 2004 I bungled 9/11. I shelved the Hart-Rudman Commission that warned of attacks on US soil. I stopped surveillance drones over Afghanistan. I stopped full Senate hearings on the Hart-Rudman commission. I ignored several threats telling of the attacks. I failed to warn Americans of the threats. I am continuing stonewalling all 9/11 investigations. I lied about Iraq having WMD, and 500 soldiers died because of my lies. I lied about Iraq being tied to 9/11 and thousands of U.S. soldiers were injured because of my lies. I lied about Iraq having biological weapons that could reach U.S. soil, and thousands of Iraqi civilians died because of my lies. We didn't find any WMD, but we found lots of oil for my buddies. We didn't find any WMD, but I was able to give lots of contracts worth billions to Halliburton and other companies that donated to my campaign POSTED AT: http://www.buzzflash.com/buzzscripts/buzz.dll/sub The Seven Statements You Won't -- But Should -- Hear During George W. Bush's State of the Union Address A BUZZFLASH GUEST COMMENTARY, by Mike Lux, January 20, 2004 Although George W. Bush will use tomorrow night's State of the Union address to highlight his supposed accomplishments. The United States continues to cope with wide-ranging problems caused by the Bush Administration. Mike Lux, former advisor to President Clinton and CEO of Progressive Strategies, Inc. provides the Seven Statements You Won't -But Should - Hear During George W. Bush's State of the Union Address : I. "Mission Accomplished" The War in Iraq continues to claim American lives while consuming billions of American tax dollars that are desperately needed at home. II. "I Gave You My Word When You Elected Me, and I Intend to Fulfill Those Promises." Where to begin? Perhaps with the promises of "No Child Left Behind," the president's AIDS initiative in Africa or his plans to expand AmeriCorps, all of which were promptly under funded. In addition, his promise to clean up carbon monoxide poisoning or his pledge to cut taxes while keeping a big surplus in the federal budget. So many broken promises, it's hard to know where to begin... READ THE REST AT: http://www.buzzflash.com/contributors/04/01/con04029.html Addressing Bush's State of Disunion by James Carroll, The Boston Globe, 1/20/04 IN HIS STATE of the Union address tonight, President Bush will speak of the nightmare he has created in Iraq as if it is a dream come true. Yet the contrary facts of the American misadventure have begun to speak for themselves. When the awful story of the Iraq war is written, the two weeks just past may be recognized as a time when the deception and disarray of Bush's policy were made more clear than ever. These are events to which the president will not refer tonight, yet taken together, they reveal the true state of his disunion: On Jan. 4 , the tape of a belligerent voice claiming to be Osama bin Laden was broadcast on Al Jazeera television. The next day the CIA confirmed that it was bin Laden, and that, made recently, the tape showed he is still alive. On Jan. 8 , the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace rebutted major Bush claims on Iraq, concluding that "administration officials systematically misrepresented the threat from Iraq WMD and ballistic missile programs." On Jan. 11 , on television, former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill confirmed reports in Ron Suskind's "The Price of Loyalty" that the Bush administration planned war against Iraq before 9/11, "from the very beginning." ...
