First Lady Helen Herron Taft and the Viscountess Chinda, wife of the Japanese ambassador, planted two Yoshina cherry trees on the northern bank of the Potomac Tidal Basin, near the Jefferson Memorial. The event was held in celebration of a gift, by the Japanese government, of 3,020 trees to the US government for planting along Washington's Potomac River. March 28th 1942 -- In the Spring of forty two, 108 "Civilian Exclusion Orders" were issued, resulting in Japanese Americans up and down the West Coast being removed, neighborhood by neighborhood. Most were taken to local "assembly centers," or temporary detention camps. BOOK TIP: "Against All Enemies" by Richard Clark Ex-Aide's Book Corners Market in Capital Buzz By RACHEL L. SWARNS, NY Times, 3/26/04 On the first day, the hottest new book in town sold out in an hour at Politics and Prose and sales clerks turned away dozens of disappointed buyers. On the second day, the store called three national book wholesalers, which announced they did not have a single copy left. ... an unexpected literary phenomenon whose account of counterterrorism failures within the Bush administration has been flying off the shelves this week... http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/26/politics/26BOOK.html?th RHINO HERE: What a week inside the DC beltway! So much truth. What's a liar to do? It seems many Republican minded friends & relatives are coming to realize the shrub gang & their cheerleaders are not REAL Republicans, (fiscal responsibility/individual rights/states rights) but neo robber barons. Makes a Rhino smile & take a brief sigh of relief. Might the political pendulum have just changed directions at the top of its swing? The WEEKEND BOTTOM LINE provides a rundown on AIR AMERICA, the new progressive talk radio network which begins broadcasting March 31st across the country. Featuring Al Franken, who was recently taken to court by Bill O'Reilly & Fox News seeking an injunction to halt distribution of "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right." ) Al's show will be called, "The O'Franken Factor."
