QUOTE OF THE WEEKEND:
If you think you're too small to have an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito in the room."
- - Anita Roddick

THIS WEEKEND IN HISTORY:
March 27th 1912
--The first cherry blossom trees, a gift from Japan, were planted in Washington, D.C. First Lady Helen Herron Taft and the Viscountess Chinda, wife of the Japanese ambassador, planted two Yoshina cherry trees on the northern bank of the Potomac Tidal Basin, near the Jefferson Memorial. The event was held in celebration of a gift, by the Japanese government, of 3,020 trees to the US government for planting along Washington's Potomac River.

March 28th 1942 -- In the Spring of forty two, 108 "Civilian Exclusion Orders" were issued, resulting in Japanese Americans up and down the West Coast being removed, neighborhood by neighborhood. Most were taken to local "assembly centers," or temporary detention camps. On March 28th, US citizen Minoru Yasui walked into a Portland, Oregon police station, presenting himself for arrest, to test the constitutionality of the orders in court. His case reached the U.S. Supreme Court.

WEB SITE TIP: The U.S. Election For The Rest Of The World
Let's help the U.S. figure out who their president should be. Lord knows they spend a lot of time 'helping' other countries with theirs. Only one vote counts and you must be in a country other than the U.S.A.  Vote Now!!

TV TIP: Richard Clarke on "Meet the Press"
Sunday, March 28, 2004 - In an exclusive Sunday morning interview, Richard Clarke, the former White House Counterterrorism Chief whose new book "Against All Enemies" has ignited a Washington firestorm over the investigation into the September 11th attacks, will appear on this Sunday's "Meet the Press with Tim Russert."  Clarke, a former White House insider, will explain his charges against the Bush administration's preparation and conduct in the war on terrorism and respond to their numerous counter-charges.

BOOK TIP: "Against All Enemies" by Richard Clark
Ex-Aide's Book Corners Market in Capital Buzz
By RACHEL L. SWARNS, NY Times,  3/26/04
On the first day, the hottest new book in town sold out in an hour at Politics and Prose and sales clerks turned away dozens of disappointed buyers. On the second day, the store called three national book wholesalers, which announced they did not have a single copy left. ... an unexpected literary phenomenon whose account of counterterrorism failures within the Bush administration has been flying off the shelves this week...

RHINO HERE:
What a week inside the DC beltway! So much truth. What's a liar to do? It seems many Republican minded friends & relatives are coming to realize the shrub gang & their cheerleaders are not REAL Republicans, (fiscal responsibility/individual rights/states rights) but neo robber barons.  Makes a Rhino smile & take a brief sigh of relief. Might the political pendulum have just changed directions at the top of its swing?

The WEEKEND BOTTOM LINE provides a rundown on AIR AMERICA, the new progressive talk radio network which begins broadcasting March 31st  across the country. Featuring Al Franken, who was recently taken to court by Bill O'Reilly & Fox News seeking an injunction to halt distribution of "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right." ) Al's show will be called, "The O'Franken Factor."   Rhino loves Franken.  Definitely on The Heroes List.

The network will also feature actress & comedienne Janeane Garofalo, hip hop icon Chuck D, radio personality Randi Rhodes, political humorist Sam Seder, environmental activist Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., "The Daily Show" co-creator Lizz Winstead, & business-of-the-media analyst on the public radio program "Marketplace" Martin Kaplan.    Rhino snorts, "THE CAVALRY'S COMIN'!"

But first, "Rhino's Rumor Mill."   Stories bumping round the Cyber Beltway without a shred of evidence to back them up. Remember Rhino's weekend greeting, "Smile when you look at me that way!"

Rhino's Rumor Mill - Spring Equinox, 2004
1)  A campaign insider revealed that John Kerry booked the Skull & Bones Tomb at Yale for his Inaugural Ball.
2)  An intelligence community veteran believes Osama Bin laden has been clandestinely playing forward for the San Antonio Spurs.
3)  Hollywood gossip has it G. Walker Bush has singed a network contract to star in a reality TV show premiering January '05 called "Average George" wherein he'll be debriefed each episode by a different former cabinet secretary on what was truth & which were lies, while they whack weeds & shovel road apples near Crawford.
4) An anonymous source at the Florida Bureau of Investigation believes Katherine Harris was likely Rush Limbaugh's oxycontin connection.
5) An aid to Jim Baker let it slip that he'll soon confess to his followers he had an affair with Rush Limbaugh.
6) A petroleum industry player confided that Condoleezza Rice has made arrangements for Sandra Bernhardt to have an oil well named after her. It was suggested the two have been seeing a lot of each other.
7) It's rumored a prominent Century City, CA firm is negotiating for John Ashcroft & Tom Delay to star in the next Batman movie set to begin principle photography January '05.  Negotiating has stalled on if the dynamic duo really has to wear tights. Your guess on who plays who.
8) In an attempt to garner an extra 5% of the vote, operatives for John Kerry are said to have been coaxing Ralph Nader to accept a position in the Kerry Administration as Attorney General.
9) Meanwhile, John Edwards supposedly made a desperate case to the Kerry people pleading they not ask Oprah Winfrey to be the VP running mate.
10) Beltway insiders believe the Saudi Royal Family has offered asylum to any & all of the outgoing shrub gang should all the truth surface & the American people decide to get even.
