THE CARTOON: The Political Attack! Mark Fiore, August 26, 2004 http://www.motherjones.com/commentary/fiore/2004/08/08_203.html THE QUOTE: "And how hard should we guffaw while we note that, as Kerry was volunteering in Vietnam and earning his medals and risking his life in the most volatile and ugly and pointless and lethal and hideous war in American history unless you count Iraq, which you really really should, Dubya was "serving" in the Air National Guard, which we all know translates to mean "hangin' down in Tijuana slamming tequila shooters and annoying the waitresses, all while praising Jesus that he had a daddy who could keep him away from scary complicated violent stuff." - - Mark Morford (From the Weekend Bottom Line) THE HISTORY: August 28, 1968 Abbie Hoffman is arrested in Chicago while having breakfast for having the word "Fuck" written on his forehead. August 29, 1996 -- Isaac Hayes, who co-wrote the Stax classic "Soul Man," sends protest letter to presidential candidate Bob Dole requesting he stop using his song, which his supporters had changed to "I'm A Dole Man." RHINO HERE: If you click on the following link... Impostor! Bush Wore a Ribbon He Never Earned! Imposter! ... you'll see a photograph of the shrub (little bush - for all you new Rhino's Blog readers) published on the Presidential Library site of George H.W. Bush. The photo was taken sometime before his promotion to 1st Lt. in 1970. In it he's wearing an Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (AFOUA) and a Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon (SAEMR) just below his pilot wings. According to a just-completed investigation by Walt Starr, Bush's unit (the 111th Fighter Intercept Squadron / 147th Fighter Intercept Group) did not receive its first AFOUA until 1975. For weeks, the media has put John Kerry's 5 medals under a microscope. Now we learn that George Bush was so ashamed of his undistinguished service record that he had himself photographed with a ribbon he never earned. This is true. For a well researched study of this life chapter of "shrub the imposter" go to: Imposter! Expanding on the above revelation, cockeyed.com has compiled photos of all the rest of shrub's medals which seem appropriate fodder for Rhino's weekend lighter side blog. Have a look & a giggle. Taking A Closer Look At The Medals Of George W. Bush George W. Bush doesn't flaunt his hard-won war medals. Occasionally he will wear them if he is attending a formal or military event, but for the most part, they are tucked away in his trophy cabinet. Due to a large number of requests for information about his wartime heroism, I began studying his medals. What I found surprised me, and I felt it was my duty as an American to spread these remarkable findings... SEE ALL THE SHRUBS MEDALS AT: http://www.cockeyed.com/citizen/medals/medals.html This Saturday (8/28) Comedienne Margaret Cho appears at The Apollo Theatre in New York as part of her tour she has deemed the "State of Emergency" Tour. She'll be competing for media attention against the repuglican convention & from the article below, it seems she's ready for the joust. This is a nice piece; not real funny but it shows her commitment reaches way past humor. I've also posted links to her website & blog below. Emergency Revolutionary By Scott Thill, AlterNet, August 27, 2004. Margaret Cho is taking her revolution to the streets. The most difficult part of revolution? Feeling you deserve one. Don't call it a revolution - perhaps call it a comeback. Margaret Cho, whose concert film Revolution has her artfully styled as Che on the cover, isn't necessarily leading a revolution. She's leading a tour, certainly, called "State of Emergency." And right now, the comic has her sights set on mobilizing her base around the hotly contested 2004 election. But her revolution has been a long time coming. Campaigning against injustice and hypocrisy whenever possible, Cho also takes the time to interact at length with a highly devoted audience composed of gays, straights, whites, Asians and whatever else America's so-called melting pot can contain. Because, as much as any talent working in these tough times of Patriot Acts and cowed journalists, she understands that although true revolution begins at home, it ends in the public square... Rhino sez, "Have a great weekend!"

Sentient Non-Idiots For Kerry Repubs pick a fight about Vietnam while Bush ruins America right now? Is the nation drunk? By Mark Morford, SF Gate, August 27, 2004 And isn't it funny how at least 13 members of Congress have actually requested that the United Nations monitor this year's U.S. presidential election, just because, just in case, just to ensure there's no voter rolling and election rigging and chad hanging and outright shameless Florida reaming like last time? And isn't it even more funny how, when firebrand U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown, from Florida, brought the issue up on the floor of Congress, she was actually shouted down by the Republicans, scolded that she was out of order and told her comments should be stricken from the record? And they all screamed and stomped and huffed and puffed and said no way should there be any oversight of this year's election, even though there is indeed a gross pile of mounting evidence that there's nothing stopping BushCo from simply stealing the election all over again. Isn't that funny? It's enough to make you laugh 'til you gag. And choke. And move to Canada... READ IT ALL AT: Sentient Non-Idiots For Kerry "RHINO'S BLOG" is the responsibility of Gary Rhine.
