THE QUOTE:
"This is what resistance looks like; if we don't show those who resort
to violence alternative methods, it will be one of our failings."

on Iraq")
THE HISTORY: June 28
1914 -- Austria's Archduke
Ferdinand assassinated by the Serbian anarchist
Gavrilo Princip. The young Serbian revolutionary's two pistol shots are said
to have touched
off World War One, but that was just an excuse. The governmental
bloodbath had been coming for many years as various nation-states jockeyed for
power & wealth. The blood of "citizens" is cheap (5 to 10 million
soldiers died).
1919 -- The Treaty
of Versailles, ending World War One & preparing
for the next "War
To End All Wars," is signed.
RHINO HERE:
Watching Rumsfeld on last weekend's Meet The Press talking about how most
insurgencies take 6, 8 or 10 years to put down, thereby attempting to numb the
brains of the American public, it reminded me of the classic novel, "All
Quiet on the Western Front" by Erich
Maria Remarque, in which the
protagonist, Katczinsky, explains how wars should really be fought:
"I'll tell ya how it should all be done. Whenever there's a big war comin'
on, you should rope off a big field (& sell tickets). Yeah, &, &,
on the big day, you should take all the kings & their cabinets & their
generals, put them in the center dressed in their underpants & let 'em fight
it out with clubs. The best country wins."
Rhino wouldn't mind seeing all them neo-con chicken-hawks running around in their "fruit
of the looms" trying to fight their way out of the messes they've been making.
If you relied on Meet The Press &/or the other tri-letter pom-pom girl broadcasters
this last week to inform you on how things are going in Iraq, you likely don't
know that "The World Tribunal on Iraq" was held in Istanbul,
Turkey. Too much truth being told at the tribunal for the corporations who exploit
the American people's airwaves. (How much do they pay the FCC for the right to
sell commercials on our airwaves?)
Today's Rhino's Blog provides several reports on the tribunal, as well as the
press release sent out by the tribunal's Jury of Conscience. The Bottom
Line is by Code Pink co-founder, author of "End The Next War Now" & Rhino's
Blog reader, Jodie
Evans who attended the Tribunal. Rhino urges you to
inform yourself on the proceedings & share it with your friends & rels.

Rhino sez, "Don't hesitate to celebrate the 4th
of July this year!
Just do it while proclaiming what you know our country is really about."

PRESS RELEASE about JURY STATEMENT
World Tribunal on Iraq - Jury of Conscience, Istanbul, 27 June,
2005
With a Jury of Conscience from 10 different countries hearing the
testimonies of 54 members of the Panel of Advocates who came from across
the world, including Iraq, the United States and the United Kingdom,
this global civil initiative came to an end with a press conference
at the Hotel Armada where the chair of the Jury of Conscience, Arundathi
Roy, announced the Jury's conclusions.
The Jury defined this war as one of the most unjust in history: "The
Bush and Blair administrations blatantly ignored the massive opposition to the
war expressed by millions of people around the world. They embarked upon one
of the most unjust, immoral, and cowardly wars in history. The Anglo-American
occupation of Iraq of the last 27 months has led to the destruction and devastation
of the Iraqi state and society. Law and order have broken down completely, resulting
in a pervasive lack of human security; the physical infrastructure is in shambles;
the health care delivery system is a mess; the education system has ceased to
function; there is massive environmental and ecological devastation; and, the
cultural and archeological heritage of the Iraqi people has been desecrated.‚
On the basis of the preceding findings and recalling the Charter of the United
Nations and other legal documents, the jury has established the following charges
against the Governments of the US and the UK:"
