What Really Matters

I'm just poking my head up after two weeks of not doing much of anything except taking care of my wife, who is recovering from major surgery.  The doctors said her problem was Pseudomyxoma Peritonei, which I've never heard of before.  They said it's a rare condition that's not really malignant but not really benign.  They also explained to me that these growths don't really attack any organs, they just crowd them out.  Without treatment, patients eventually can't even eat anything because there's not enough room in their abdomen to put anything into their stomach.  They also said it's pretty close to impossible to remove all traces of the tissue so it's likely that she may need to have this operation again at some point in the future.  As the surgeon said, good news and not so good news...

For now, though, I'm happy to see my wife slowly getting better from the surgery (the doctor told us that it may take up to 3 months to be 100% better, though).  A friend of my wife's flew in from Chicago today to help take care of her for a week so I'll be able to go back to work on Monday.
