Rory Perry's Weblog Law, technology, and the courts IP telephony rollout in progress
I got a new IP phone this week, as part of the IP telephony rollout in the West Virginia judicial system. The phones will run over the court's statewide data network that was originally built to run the videoconferencing system (and still does). When all of the call managers are in place in the various local calling regions of the State, I will be able to call judiciary employees statewide for the cost of a local call. Plus, I can manage the phone features from the browser, and access the judicial directory right on the phone itself. Having the network infrastructure in place statewide is essential to providing these services. Colleagues in other states do not always have the advantage of a statewide high-speed data network that is owned and controlled by the court system. 3:54:21 PM [Permanent Link] I just posted the last opinion summary. Looks like the 20 individual posts took a little over half an hour (which includes two phone call interruptions and three brief counter interruptions). I use Radio in OS X, so I don't have the WYSIWYG editor, and add all the links by hand. I also added a few cross-links to other opinions referenced. I do individual posts because I want each summary to have its own title element. This enhances Google searching and enables the titled to be listed as quick references using the recent posts macro in Radio. All in all, a half-hour well spent. 3:34:29 PM [Permanent Link]End of term nears - self-timing post The end of the court term approaches, with over 45 opinions outstanding. The Court released 20 opinions this week, and I just completed writing the summaries. I'm getting ready to post the summaries to the weblog pages I maintain for the Court, and I want to record how long it will take me to post those summaries. 2:55:46 PM [Permanent Link]
