Inbox Buddy Update

I've been very quiet on the whole Inbox Buddy front for a while now and I wanted to give an update.  So the obvious things are:

  1. No we didn't drop off the planet.  No aliens did not abduct me and conduct vile, scary experiments with strange medical tools.  We're still alive, well, sane (mostly) and continuing to make new versions.  We're up to .906 as of 10/29.
  2. New features and little touches continue to be added.  Report Spam now deletes the reported spam from your Inbox (obvious but these touches come from great customer interaction; Thanks Matt !).
  3. We think we've licked the installation issues but we're still finalizing QA.  Our problem turned out to be security issues with server side PST files on an exchange server.
  4. Automatic routing of all spam to a spam folder is now present (Duh!  It's a spam product; but your product manager, that would be me, has had it manually configured for so long that I just forgot about it).
  5. We'll be posting the latest version shortly (tomorrow probably).
  6. We're pretty close to moving to a 1.0.
  7. I'll probably be starting a 30 Days to a Better Outlook series featuring Inbox Buddy next week (actual date is tbd).  This idea came from a tester, Matt?, and it's a great one.  Thanks!

So thank you to Matt, Kjartan, Joe, Buzz, John and others (if I forgot you I'm sorry; it's been a long week).  And a special thanks to John's tireless efforts to help us smote this server side PST issue with a mighty blog.  You rock man!   We really appreciate the feedback.

In Case You're a Book Author or Thanks Lisa Mann!

Although I'm not a huge O'Reilly fan at times, I have to say that O'Reilly definitely has wonderful, wonderful people in places.  Lisa Mann from O'Reilly puts together an author's newsletter that lets authors know about speaking and writing engagements.  This is how I found out about the David Coursey interview among other things.  Here's a tidbit from the latest newsletter:

When you have a speaking engagement, please remember to include the title of your book(s) in your bio. Event organizers will be thrilled to include it; it telegraphs your expert status better than almost any other sentence they can include. If the topic is related to the topic of your book, ask if you can distribute fliers for your book at your session or in the goodies bags. We may be able to arrange a special discount for attendees of events you speak at. (Please try to give us as much advance warning as possible if you'll need fliers or discounts.) Some authors have added the cover image of their book to the opening or closing slides that accompany their talk. Please also email pr@oreilly.com when you confirm a speaking engagement. We can sometimes help publicize your talk, or notify local press or press attending the event.

Sure this advice definitely helps O'Reilly but it also helps the author as well.  It's just plain good, smart marketing.  While I did think to mention the blogging book in my PHPCon talks, it wasn't on the bio afaik and I could have done more.

Thanks Lisa!
